Twenty fake accounts with deposits amounting to as much as Rs 60 crores were uncovered during an I-T department raid at an Axis Bank branch in Noida, Uttar Pradesh this morning.
Sources say that systematic deposits were made into these accounts, opened in the name of workers and labourers.
The matter came to light when a jeweller in Noida sold gold worth Rs 600 crores post the November 8 demonetisation announcement, and deposited the amount at the branch.
The raid is still ongoing. A large number of account holders have gathered outside the bank. A police team is also deployed outside. Axis bank has been in news for all wrong reasons post demonetisation. We can only wonder what is happening at Axis Bank.
