Officials of the customs department recovered 16 gold biscuits weighing 1 kg each, hidden in diapers being worn by two infants, at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on Monday. Officials said the gold was recovered when they intercepted six fliers, including two infants, who had arrived from Dubai at 7 am. All six hail from Surat and were travelling in two groups.
“The six were identified at the arrival area after crossing the green channel. On a detailed personal and baggage search, 16 kg gold valued at Rs 4.28 crore was recovered from the diapers of the infants,” said S R Baruah, Commissioner of Customs at the airport.
