Indian Politicians have often been criticized for not being as humble as the average Aam Aadmi. Travelling in swanky Cars with SPG protection, living in palatial bungalows, flying in VVVIP Choppers and dining at Five Star restaurants have been set as a standard by many leaders of the Congress Party in the last decade.
It was on these same parameters that Delhi Assembly Elections were fought in 2015. Aam Aadmi Party’s primary poll plank revolved around destroying this VVIP culture in Delhi. After winning the elections, they contributed more to this VVIP culture and sadly they didn’t practice what they preached.
Manohar Parrikar, the Ex-CM of Goa and the present Defense Minister of India, have always set high standards when it come to simplicity. Riding as a pillion rider in bikes, eating at small cafes and traveling with least amount protection have been his trademark.
Here is one such personal example from a Facebook user which will explain to you the simplicity of this man:-
“Truly amazing Manohar Parrikar , the Indian Defence Minister. Amazed to witness his simplicity today as a true “aam aadmi” as he traveled economy on Indigo Airlines from Goa to Delhi tonight … ZERO VIP perks…. He stood in the line along with other passengers as he boarded the plane – took a seat at the center of the aircraft… No VIP entourage … Got down from the aircraft queuing with rest and boarded the packed airlines bus & stood with other passengers as it ferried passengers from aircraft to arrivals terminal – I believe much of the people didn’t even realize that one of their ordinary looking fellow passenger is the Defence Minister of India! True role model, salute the spirit, culture and mindset Sir!”
