Pakistan’s envoy to India, Abdul Basit, shocked everyone when he made the statement that the Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue between India and Pakistan remains ‘suspended for now’. Now, our National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval has had a strict talk with his Pakistani counterpart Naseer Khan Janjua yesterday and has strongly protested to the manner in which Pakistani envoy reacted.
Ajit Doval had a telephonic conversation with Pakistan NSA Janjua yesterday night on the way Pakistan has behaved after India allowed Pakistan probe team to visit the Pathankot Air force base. Ajit Doval told Janjua that investigation into the Pathankot terror attack was not a question of ‘reciprocity’ but that of ‘cooperation’ between the two countries.
According to reports being run by the Pakistani media, Ajit Doval told Pakistani NSA to get his government to clarify its stand AND reject the statement made by the Pakistani envoy.
Ajit Doval also made it clear that if Pakistan fails to do so, India will toughen its stand on bilateral engagement with the state of Pakistan.
Furthermore, the scheduled visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Pakistan in the later part of this year for the SAARC Summit could also be cancelled.
Pakistani NSA responded, as per reports, by saying that Pakistan wants to continue the peace process and wants to cooperate in the investigation going on in the Pathankot terror attack.
