5.1 magnitude earthquake hits Assam, No casualty or Damage has been reported

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale today rocked Assam, according to the Regional Seismological Centre.

The epicentre was at latitude 26. 2 degree North and Longitude 92.5 degree East.

The earthquake occurred at 10:23 AM and its center was Dhing, Assam.

  1. The intensity of earthquake was 5.1 on Richter scale.
  2. No casualty has been reported.
  3. Officials here told that there is no news of loss of life due to the earthquake.

According to a report of the Regional Earthquake Science Center located in Shillong, the center of moderate intensity earthquake was 22 km away from Dhing of Nagaon district.The quake lasting nearly a minute caused panic among the people who rushed out of their houses and offices to the open spaces outside.

Earthquake is measured by the effect of the people affected by the quack, away from its center. If the depth of the earthquake was shallow, then the energy coming out of it was very close to the surface, which increased the devastation. The earthquakes that are deep, does not move much to the ground.

According to the Richter scale, the number of seismic shocks which are less than 2.0 in intensity is about eight thousand daily, which the person does not feel.

Various earthquake areas have been classified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). These zonal zones are divided into four zones – II, III, IV and V.
