Actress Koena Mitra slammed Shabana Azmi over Rohingya issue

Model cum actress Koena Mitra recently engaged in a twitter duel with another actress, Shabana Azmi over the issue of Rohingya muslim settlements in West Bengal. The debate on Twitter sparked between the two actresses, when Koena in one of her tweets raised concerns about Rohingya muslims being given shelter in West Bengal by state government.

“Rohingyas are being thrown out of Myanmar and Srilanka bcos of their terrorist activities, but CM is giving them land, helping them to settle down in #WestBengal posing danger to national security. #BengalAgainstRohingya When will you help WB? @PMOIndia @rashtrapatibhvn,” she said in her tweet.

The tweet of Koena soon met with a couple of counter-tweets from Shabana Azmi, through which she tried explain that Rohingyas are victim of ethnic cleansing. In a tweet Shabana Azmi added image of some old Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar and asked Koena that whether they look like terrorists to Koena.

Shabana Azmi might have thought that she won the debate by quoting UN, and giving some humanitarian arguments but Koena was not someone to lay back. Koena Mitra quickly countered the arguments of Shabana Azmi by one after another hard hitting tweets. She explained why India and West Bengal are not at a position to give Rohingya muslims refuge.

Responding to the Shabana Azmi’s question whether old Rohingya Muslims look like terrorists to her, Koena said, “All terrorists have parents, they must be old and am sure they are good humans. Everyone isn’t bad, but when our country is suffering because of outsiders and invaders we should stand together and boycott them, simple.”

Even though Shabana Azmi and some left-liberals did not seem to like what Koena said, a lot of people including West Bengal BJP leader and singer Babul Supriyo praised her for showing the guts of speaking up the truth.
