Alagiri mocks his brother MK Stalin as Non-Working President of DMK

Former Union Minister and expelled DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) leader MK Alagiri mocked his brother and the DMK President, MK Stalin, as a “Non-working president”. He further suggested that the genuine DMK functionaries and cadres are with him. He made these statements when he was attending the marriage function of a DMK cadre in Palamedu near Madurai.

He said that “After seeing the tremendous response I received after coming here, it was like a party meeting instead of a marriage function. When I see this response, I recollect my old memories. Present members in DMK don’t work for the party. They are present in the party just for the post. Non-working president of the party is holding the post of working president in Chennai but most of the working cadres are present with me”

This had taken a huge hit on the image of DMK. After DMK president M.Karunanidhi, had stepped down, the DMK was unable to function with its full potential. This was also reflected in the RK Nagar by-poll election results, where the party got a big blow as it lost the deposit.

DMK losing deposit, for such a celebrated election, was unimaginable and it happened after several decades. When the party is looking for revival under MK Stalin, such a statement from the former DMK south secretary Alagiri may degrade the party’s fortunes further.

Alagiri was expelled from DMK before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He was alleged to have involved in anti-party activities because of his meeting with MDMK and his comments on possible alliance with DMDK.

Some media reports also told hinted that he was expelled from the party as he had a difference of opinion with the DMK supremo M.Karunanidhi because of his rivalry with his brother, MK Stalin. Alagiri’s statement about the presence of genuine DMK cadres with him, indicates the absence of stability in the organisational structure of DMK.
