Ahead of much anticipated 2019 general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received support from unlikely quarters. Iqbal Ansari, a litigant for the reconstruction of Babri Masjid at the disputed land in Ayodhya, has endorsed the Modi government, saying that his “tenure was good” and that he “deserves praise.”
Apart from lauding the Prime Minister, Ansari also praised Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, a state which is perhaps going to play the most crucial role in overall results.
Praising the BJP leaders, Ansari said, “When the tenure of PM Modi and CM Yogi has been good, people will praise them. Since they deserve praise, I also praise them. I want parties who work well to rule the nation. The tenure of both PM Modi and CM Yogi has been going well,” Ansari said,
This despite the fact that the NDA government’s stance on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid debate is contrary to Ansari’s perspective, as the Modi government has backed the construction of Ram Mandir at the site in Ayodhya.
In fact, recently, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had claimed that if the Supreme Court cannot resolve the matter, it should “hand it over to us” and it will be resolved “within 24 hours.” Adityanath had said, “We appeal to the Supreme Court to give us justice at the earliest, to the satisfaction of millions of people, so that it can become a symbol of people’s faith. But if there is an unnecessary delay, institutions may lose people’s trust.”
Over the course of his nearly five-year tenure, PM Modi has taken steps in a bid to reach out to the minority community.
