Bihar: Woman And Daughter Gang-Raped At Gunpoint As Husband Was Tied To Tree

A man was tied to a tree as his wife and 12-year-old daughter were gang-raped at gunpoint by around 20 men on Wednesday in Bihar’s Gaya. Two of the attackers have been identified by the family and arrested. Some 17 are in custody, being questioned for a crime that has jolted the region.

A group of armed youths tied the man to a tree and raped his wife and 15-year-old daughter in front of him, a senior police official said on Thursday. The family was returning to home while they were crossing the area on a motorcycle near Sondiha village in Konch Police Station area late on Wednesday night.

The man watched in helplessness as three of the criminals took turns to sexually assault his wife and daughter, a police officer said and added the criminals then escaped.

When the doctor was returning home from his private clinic with his wife and daughter on his motorcycle, he was stoped by the goons. The family was also robbed of cash, jewellery and other valuables they had at the time before being released.

“I urged them to take away all our valuables and let us go, but still they took turns to do this (rape) with me and my daughter on an open agricultural field beside the road,” said the doctor’s distraught wife to journalists on Thursday.

“The three were passing through Sondiha on a motorcycle when they were waylaid by the youths carrying firearms. They raped the mother and the daughter after tying the father to a tree,” Inspector General of Police, Patna Zone, Naiyar Hasnain Khan, said. The victims identified two of the arrested youths, he said.

The goons had warned the doctor not to inform police, but he called police from his mobile phone minutes after his release. Gaya SSP Rajeev Mishra and Sherghati SDPO Manish Kumar reached the spot and made arrangements for an ambulance to send the two gangrape victims to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College (ANMMCH), some 40 km away, for treatment.

Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra immediately rushed to the spot and organised raids during which 20 people were rounded up. “Six of the nine criminals were masked. A manhunt was on to nab the other culprits,” the SSP said and added the family’s complaint to police alleged rape of the woman and molestation of the teenager.

The same gang had earlier robbed two other bikers passing through the area. The duo had also been tied with a rope and they too witnessed the ghastly crime.

Efforts are on to arrest others involved in the crime, khan said, adding that the station house officer (SHO) has been suspended with immediate effect for the lapse on his part, and a departmental action will follow.

Police said that the woman was brought to Gaya for medical examination. She is the mother of four kids.
