The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) general secretary of Chikmagalur in Karnataka was hacked to death last night. Mohammed Anwar was on his way home when he was stabbed to death by bike-borne assailants near Gauri canal.
The 44-year-old was stabbed thrice and died on the spot, police said.
The police have registered a case but none of the attackers have been indentified so far. Cops said they were probing the case from all possible angles but prima-facie it appears to be a matter of personal animosity. More details awaited.
Tension is simmering in the town following the murder of the BJP leader in Chikmagalur. Local party leaders described Anwar’s killing as part of a larger conspiracy.

Several BJP, RSS leaders have been killed in Kerala, West Bengal and Karnataka in the past few months. During a rally in October last year, BJP president Amit Shah had accused Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan for the targeted killings. “I want to ask CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who is responsible for killing 84 BJP /RSS workers in Kannur? If he is not answering, I am saying that he is responsible and the blood stains are on him only,” Shah had said.
