Former TMC MLA and current leader of the BJP in West Bengal, has been named in a FIR about assassination of a lawmaker. On Sunday, TMC MLA Satyajit Biswas was shot dead from point blank range at a Saraswati puja event. TMC sources have accused Mukul Roy and his associates for the crime.
The BJP however has rubbished all allegations against their leaders, and called the incident a result of state’s deteriorating law and order.
The West Bengal Police has so far arrested two people in the case who have also been named in the FIR. The department has also suspended officer-In-charge of Hanskhali Police station.
West Bengal education minister Partha Chatterjee said, “A riotous blood thirsty party like the BJP is capable of such acts. People of this country know it well. The way they have been provoking people, it’s the result of such acts.”
Mukul Roy’s name in the FIR also gains significance because he is also an accused in the Saradha chit fund scam. The Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government locked horns with the Modi government last Sunday when the Central Bureau of Investigation tried to interrogate Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in the Sardha chit fund scam.
Since then, the BJP and the Trinamool Congress have been engaged in a verbal duel with both parties accusing each other of shielding the corrupt, compromising with the Constitution and attacking each others’ workers physically.
