BJP MLA from Mumbai, Ram Kadam, who was under fire for his controversial remarks on offering help to boys to abduct girls for marriage, has finally tendered an apology. Kadam released a video tendering apology but still insisted that his statement was quoted out of context.
Kadam stoked controversy by saying at a Dahi Handi event that he would help young men elope with girls they want to marry. The Maharashtra State Commission for Women took suo motu cognisance of Kadam’s remarks on Wednesday and sought a clarification from him in eight days.
BJP state spokesperson Madhav Bhandari played down Kadam’s remark, saying as the MLA has expressed regret over it, the matter is over. “After Kadam regretted his comments, the chapter is over for the party now. He has tweeted about it, so there is no need to comment on it,” Bhandari said.
