Karnataka: The Income Tax department on Saturday seized Rs 5.7cr in Rs 2000 notes, Rs 90 lakh in old notes and 32kg in bullion from the ‘secret bathroom chamber’ of a hawala dealer in Karnataka.
I-T department made the seizures from two secret bathroom chambers at the hawala dealer’s premises in Chitradurga and Hubballi.

In another incident of money being moved under suspicious circumstances, Income Tax personnel seized Rs 24 crore in new currency on Saturday from a car in Vellore.
During a check led by the Income Tax Department, cash in new Rs 2000 currency notes amounting to Rs 24 crore was confiscated from the car. An interrogation in the Chennai tax evasion case led to the discovery.
The money was stocked into 12 cartons with each one containing Rs 2 crore.
The nabbing of black money hoarders since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move just doesn’t seem to stop.
On Friday, police detained a group of seven men in Dadarw with Rs 85 lakh cash, which included Rs 72 lakh in new Rs 2,000 notes.
