A Change of guard in Tamil Nadu, Sasikala Natarajan is the next Chief Minister Of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu had been in a state of non committal mode, especially with all the power play happening in the state for the past two months, ever since the death of serving Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Ex-Finance Minister O Paneerselvam was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the State with immediate effect on 6th December 2016.

A meeting of AIADMK MLAs was called on this Sunday (5th February 2017) and Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had formally submitted his resignation to Sasikala, General Secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

In a rather shocking turn of events, CM O Paneerselvam himself had proposed the name of Sasikala as the Legislature Party Leader. Post this proposal, she has now been as its leader. This means that Sasikala will be announced as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu very soon.

Earlier to this, there were several speculations in twitterati sources that Sasikala is to be elevated to the post of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Official twitter handles of both CMO Tamil Nadu and AIADMK have confirmed the turn of events.

Sasikala has been an aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for 30 years. She lived in Jayalalithaa’s shadow for decades, and is considered one of her closest associates.

While she has never held a public office before the death of Jayalalithaa, her family – the Mannargudi clan – has held significant influence in Tamil Nadu politics for several years.
