Various reports in past few months suggested that certain wings of the Catholic Church have decided to use their reach amongst the Christian masses to campaign against BJP, prior to 2019 general elections. Recently a Christian cleric from Tamil Nadu, openly came out to the deliver a political speech against the BJP.
Speaking at a function organized by Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Arul Sagayaraj, Trichy Diocese, stated, “We all have to fight against one enemy that is BJP. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari all the parties should come together against BJP. Individual parties like Mayawatis and others fought with each other and enemy came to power. We should join hands. You might have several differences; we should keep it away and come together to beat BJP.”
On 23rd of December, during a Christmas function, several Christian clerics had announced their support to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) President, MK Stalin. Earlier even during assembly elections in Gujarat and Karnataka, Christian clerics had openly urged their followers to cast votes against BJP.
The Country is all set for the general elections, which will take place sometime in the first half of this year. While the BJP led NDA will once again approach the elections with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its face, various opposition parties from different parts of the country are attempting to build a solid alliance to challenge the ruling regime.
