Close aide of Arvind Kejriwal calls Amritsar tragedy a “small incident”

In a rather shocking statement, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and a reported close aide of Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal, Sukhpal Singh Khaira termed the Amritsar tragedy as a “small incident.” The MLA said that several people die in various road mishaps in Punjab everyday and hence the Amritsar incident is a small one.

He further went on to say that this happens every other day across the country as “8-10 people of the same family are killed in a single accident”. Khaira said that suddenly this has become the “focus of attention” of the media and several others who have reached the spot and have been broadcasting the same massively.

“As many as 5000 people die in road accident in Punjab per year. These small accidents like the one in Amritsar happen every day across the country,” the AAP MLA said while speaking to news channel, Times Now.

On 19th of October, a train crushed hundreds of people who had gathered on a railway track to witness a nearby Ravana effigy burning program. The accident claimed 59 lives while many more sustained fatal injuries. However, as per reports, the railway authorities and the driver were not aware of the gathering on the tracks.

A day after the accident, Khaira took to Twitter and said that the death toll is false and it is much more than claimed. “59 dead no one responsible – actually the number of dead is much higher, that’s why I say its a total collapse of the governance in India! 2 Sikh youth shot dead in Behbal three years ago but no action! Thousands killed in 1984 Sikh genocide in Delhi etc but no justice even after 34 yrs!” he tweeted.
