Actress turned politician Khushbu Sundar lashed out at her former party, the Congress, days after joining BJP. Speaking to media soon after landing in Chennai on Tuesday afternoon, Khushbu said that she was loyal to the Congress, but the party disrespected her.
Referring to the grand old party as a ‘mentally retarded’ party, Khushbu ripped into Tamil Nadu Congress leaders who made indecent remarks about her. “They (the Congress) don’t want an intelligent woman. To say that I was seen only as an actress, shows the Congress’ cheap thoughts,” Khushbu said.
On Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K S Alagiri calling her merely an actor and not a political leader, she said that it took six long years for him to realize that.
She slammed the Congress state leadership for disrespecting her and said, “I am truthful to the party (Congress) as long as I was associated with it. But I never opposed the ruling government for sake of opposing it. When PM Modi brought NEP and triple talaq schemes, I welcomed them.”
On her political aspirations and any role in the party, she said, “I just joined the party and it is up to the party leadership to decide on my role. There are several senior party leaders ahead of me.” She further said that she joined the party without expecting any posting or benefits.
Meanwhile, the actress has expressed regret for using the term ‘mentally retarded’ after a rights organization representing people with disabilities, objected to her choice of words.
Khushbu joined the BJP in Delhi on Monday in the presence of BJP’s national general secretary CT Ravi and later met BJP president JP Nadda. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying if the nation has to ‘move forward’ it needs the leadership of Modi. Khushbu, 50, featured in more than 200 movies.
