Congress leader KK Mishra sentenced to 2-year jail term in MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan defamation case

A local court here on Friday sentenced Congress leader KK Mishra to two-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for levelling scam accusations against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and his family.

Mishra in June 2014 had alleged that 19 candidates from the village of CM’s wife Sadhna Singh in Maharashtra were recruited by the state transport department following directives from the CM House.

Chouhan then filed a defamation case against Mishra in the Bhopal district court.

After the Madhya Pradesh High Court dismissed a revision petition filed by Mishra challenging the charges against him in July, the Congress leader moved the Supreme Court. But the top court also rejected Mishra’s plea to transfer the case from the district court.

The prosecution argued that the unsubstantial allegations by the Congress spokesperson have lowered the dignity of a person holding a constitutional post.
