Criticise Us, Abuse Us, but please come and watch Indian Football team play, Sunil Chhetri

On Saturday, Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri took to twitter to make a emotional plea urging all Indians to support Indian football. India had recently routed Chinese Taipei 5-0 yesterday in the opening game of the 2018 Intercontinental Cup with less than 2000 fans watching from the stands in Mumbai.

“To all of you who have lost hope or do not have any hope in Indian football, I request you to come and watch us in the stadium. It is not fun to criticise and abuse on the internet. Come to the stadium. Do it on our face. Scream at us, shout at us and abuse us. Who knows, one day we might change you guys,” he said.

“To all of you fans who could not come or did not come due to delay, work, school, please come and watch us in the stadiums. You guys have no idea how important you are and your support is,” he further added.

“To all of you who are fans of big European clubs and support European clubs with so much passion and sometimes you guys think that the level is not the same, so why do you waste your time? Agreed, the level is not the same, not even close but with our desire and determination, we will try our best to make your time worth,” Chhetri added.

Several Indian Cricket celebrities have acknowledged the genuine lack of enthusiasm for football among Indian sports fans. They have posted videos and tweets on twitter, requesting fans to watch the Indian team play in the 2018 Intercontinental Cup. India will face Kenya on June 4, which will incidentally be Sunil Chhetri’s 100th international match.
