DAC approves Equipment Acquisition proposals for Defence forces worth over Rs 5500 Crore

A meeting of Defense Purchase Council (DAC) was held here today under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman. Equipment purchase proposals of more than Rs. 5,500 crores were sanctioned for security forces in this meeting. In order to achieve the goal of indigenization and self-reliance in the field of defense purchase, DAC has allowed the purchase of 12 high power radars for the Indian Air Force under the ‘Buy IDDM (Indian)’ class.

Pursuing the goal of indigenisation and self-reliance in the field of Defence Procurements, the DAC approved procurement of 12 High Power Radars for the Indian Air Force under ‘Buy (Indian) IDDM’ category. The radars will provide long range medium and high altitude radar cover with the capability to detect and track high speed targets following parabolic trajectories.

Technologically superior, the radars will have the capability to scan 360° without mechanical rotation of Antenna and will operate on 24 x 7 basis with minimal maintenance requirement. Their procurement will enhance the overall efficacy of the Air Defence network in the country.

The purchase of these devices will increase the overall efficiency of the air defense network in the country. DAC also approved the purchase of Air Cushion Vehicles (ACV) from the Indian Shipyard for Indian Coast Guard and Indian Army. These craft will provide an increase in the efficiency of services and will prove useful for the operation of amphibians / river.

Especially in places where there is a need to transfer the jawans and materials from one island to another, river, creek etc.
