Deepika Padukone makes controversial comments about the nation

New Delhi : Actress Deepika Padukone who is playing the title role in Sanjay Lila Bhansali film Padmavati, is making headlines for her recent controversial comments. Speaking about the protests and objections against her upcoming movie, she said that we (India) have regressed as a nation. “It’s appalling, it’s absolutely appalling. What have we gotten ourselves into? And where have we reached as a nation? We have regressed”.

She further added that, they are only answerable to the censor board and nothing can stop the release of the film.”The only people we are answerable to is the censor board, and I know and I believe that nothing can stop the release of this film,” the actor said, adding that the film industry’s support symbolises how “this is not about Padmavati… we’re fighting a much bigger battle”.

The remarks of Deepika did not went down well with a lot of people across country. She is attracting a lot of heat since she made the comment. BJP leader Subhramanian Swamy has come out all guns blazing against the actress for her comments. “Cine actress Deepika Padukone giving us lecture on regression! Nation can progress only when it is regression from her perspective,” Swamy tweeted.

There is also a rumor floating on the social media that Deepika Padukone is actually a Dutch citizen. Though it is true that she was born in Denmark, it is unknown whether she is still a citizen of that country or not. When a twitter user asked about the same to Subhramanian Swamy he responded, “If true, she must disclose why. This is purely an Indian only debate.”

Previously Amir Khan had to face a lot of outrage after he made similar comments regarding the safety of Muslims in India, now it remains to be seen if Deepika Padukone gets a similar treatment from the people.
