A student of Delhi University named Rahul Rajput was lynched to death earlier this week by the family members of his Muslim female friend, with whom he allegedly had an affair. Rahul was a BA student and a part time tuition teacher.
According to the reports, Rajput and his alleged Muslim girlfriend used to study together. One day, a brother of the girl spotted the two together, and this did not go down well with him.
On Wednesday evening, the victim got a call from an unknown person, asking to meet him at Nanda road to discuss his tuition classes. But, when he reached the spot, a group of five men, including her brother, physically assaulted him, The Hindu Quoted a senior police officer as saying.
They slapped and kicked him following which he sustained severe injuries. He was then rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment, the officer added.
According to the uncle of the victim, at around 7pm on Wednesday, he received news that his nephew was being beaten by the brothers of the girl and their friends. “On Wednesday at 7 p.m., I got a call from my friend who informed us that four-five boys were beating up my nephew. When I reached the spot, I found that my nephew was being beaten brutally by the girl’s brothers and their accomplices… they slapped, punched and kicked him,” he wrote in his complaint.
In his complaint, he also wrote that his nephew and the girl knew each other for two years. They lived in the same locality but the girl’s parents, especially her brothers, were against their friendship.
Meanwhile, five accused have been arrested and a case registered. They have been identified as Manwar Hussain, Mohammad Afroz and Sarfaraz.
The is reminiscent of the Ankit Saxena lynching, another Delhi boy who was also lynched to death by the family of his Muslim girlfriend.
