Doctors vs WB Government: While Mamata Banerjee takes strong stance against the doctors movement, her own nephew joins the protests for safety of medical staff

The doctors protest for better security and safety of hospitals and medical staff, has rocked the entire state of West Bengal. The medical facilities of the state have completely crumbled down, with doctors denying to resume regular work until their demands are met. A large number of doctors from across various Government hospitals have also submitted their resignation as part of the protests.

To control the situation, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday issued an ultimatum saying that either doctors resume their work or vacate the hostels. However, instead of improving anything, the CM’s ultimatum seems to have further worsened the situation. The protesting doctors have responded to the CM’s ultimatum with resignations and demands of unconditional apology from her.

This entire protest has divided West Bengal into two parts, those in favour of the doctors and those in favour of the government. And it seems like even the family of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not untouched by this divide.

According to reports, while Mamata Banerjee has taken a strong stance against the Protests, her own nephew Abesh Banerjee himself is a part of the movement. Abesh, who is a MBBS student at Kolkata’s KPC medical college, has joined the protests with full might.

Incidentally, a doctor of this same KPC medical college and daughter of one of TMC’s tallest leaders Firhad Hakim, Shabba Hakim has also lashed out at the Government over its stance on the protests. Shabba on a Facebook post said that she is ashamed to be a TMC supporter.
