False identity card racket caught close to Bangladesh border, in West Bengal’s Bongaon

The West Bengal police has caught a racket of false identify cards at Bongaon city, approximately 78 kilometers away from Kolkata, very close to the Bangladesh border. The racket, used to produce all kinds of fake official documents such as voter identity cards, aadhaar cards, trade licenses, etc.

Police raided the building where the racket was operating at Bongaon city’s Paokpara area, after receiving a tip-off.

The police sources have said that the main accused, used sophisticated technology to perfectly replicate the government seals and symbols on the false documents.

In the past, intelligence inputs had revealed that these fake identity cards were procured by Bangladeshi immigrants at a premium. They allegedly use these fake documents in India. Police are not ruling out the possibility of terror suspects using this as a tool to sneak into the country.

One of the accused, Arup Biswas has been arrested and kept under police custody. During interrogation it was revealed that the racket was being operated from Biswas’ house for over a year. Police also seized a large number of fake voter identity cards and other false documents from his possession.

The investigation has also revealed that some officials had ordered him to produce large number of false identity cards and documents for a hefty amount. The identity of these officials and their purpose are being investigated. Police suspect involvement of some unscrupulous elements in the district collectorate.

The racket came to light a few months back when local police arrested Sourav Biswas, who was caught with fake Voter ID and Aadhaar cards. An unusually large number of fake ID cards were seized from his possession.
