Female assistant accuses filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani of sexual abuse

A woman has accused famous filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani of sexually abusing on more than one occasion. The accuser supoosedly worked as Hirani’s assistant. The woman has alleged that Hirani regularly abused her over a period of six months between March and September 2018, most of which took place during the post-production of Sanjay Dutt biopic, Sanju. The woman made the allegations through an email dated November 3, 2018, addressed to Sanju co-producer and Hirani’s close business associate Bollywood producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

Apart from Hirani, Chopra’s wife Anupama, and scriptwriter Abhijat Joshi also find mention in the letter. “I remember forming these words on my lips – “Sir. This is wrong…Because of this power structure. You being the absolute power and me being a mere assistant, a nobody – I will never be able to express myself to you.” the woman wrote of the April 9 incident in the email to Chopra. Until the assault, the woman wrote in her email, she saw Hirani as a father figure.

“My mind, body and heart were grossly violated that night and for the next 6 months,” the email said of the period that followed.

Speaking to HuffPost India, the woman said that her father was suffering from a terminal illness, and so she desperately needed to hold on to her job. “I had no choice but to be polite to him,” the woman told HuffPost India. “It was unbearable but the reason I endured it all, until I couldn’t, was because I didn’t want my job to be taken away from me, and work to be questioned. Ever.”

However, Hirani through his counsel Anand Desai has rubbished the allegations. “At the outset, our client states that the allegations made against him are false, mischievous, scandalous, motivated and defamatory,” Desai said in an email dated December 5, 2018 to HuffPost India.

Rajkumar Hirani is best known for his works like the Munnabhai series, Three idiots, PK and most recently Sanju.
