Idea to take on Reliance Jio, users will soon be getting free internet and calls.
The bid amongst Indian telecom operators to win the war against Reliance Jio and not let the telecom operator continue it’s successful run in the country has seen some bizarre schemes and launches in the past few months. Most telecom operators have slashed prices and come up with newer schemes in different circles to match up to Reliance Jio’s free calling offers. The packs which begin as cheap as Rs 49 go all the way up to Rs 1000 and are priced differently for customers depending on their needs.
In the recent past, there have been multiple such packs launched by almost all operators including BSNL, Reliance Communications, Airtel and Idea themselves is not lagging behind in the race to woo customers back from the shift to Reliance Jio. but then looks like Idea is upping the ante with their new scheme.
While nothing regarding the offer has been finally announced, news has it that the offer will be launched soon. The offer will be for one entire year! Idea plans to soon launch new packs with unlimited internet and calling which will have a validity of up to 1 or even 1.5 years. The packs will not be for all users but only for Idea 4G users in specific circles. The report also suggests that Idea plans to soon launch new customer loyalty plan through which loyal customers or those with high points can avail better benefits. How exactly the plan works or what are the offers under the plan has not been unveiled but it is likely to revolve around free calling and 4G for the time being.
In order to fight Reliance Jio and the free services it is offering. Idea is also planning to launch packs for International calling. But packs are aimed at making International calling free for incoming calls and offering highly discount prices for outgoing calls.
It might be noted that Reliance Communications, owned by Anil Ambani and a competitor to Reliance Jio owned by Mukesh Ambani recently launched multiple international calling packs and a global calling app to woo international callers. The app also came with multiple offers for those on International roaming.
According to TRAI rules, no telecom operator in the country can run any promotional pack for more than 90 days – the same rule which has been the bone of contention for Reliance Jio as most telecom operators have complained against Jio for flouting this rule and extending the free calling and data pack offer well over 90 days.
With Idea planning to offer the packs with a validity for 1 to 1.5 years, it will be a clear flouting of TRAI rules and we would like to see how Idea makes tweaks to their plans to stay within the framework of the present norms. Perhaps they too might launch the plan and ever 3 months, make slight alterations like Reliance is doing. However, as these are just rumours, take them with a pinch of salt for now!
