Government slashed GST on movie tickets, Akshay, Ajay, Amir thanks PM

Just a couple of day’s ago, several representatives of the film industry including top stars hekd a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. And now within days, the government has included film tickets in the list of those items on which GST has been reduced. This means, movie lovers will now have to pay 18% GST on tickets above 100, instead of 28% and 12% on tickets below hundred, instead of previous 18%. Other items such as televisions, tyres, monitors have also received a cut in GST rates.

Bollywood supetstars, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgan, who were present in the meeting have thanked the Prime Minister for considering demands of the film industry. “Quick action and how! Within a few days of our meeting with hon. Prime Minister @narendramodi ji, the Government addressed our concern…GST for movie tickets to be reduced. A welcome move for the industry and audiences as well,” Akshay Kumar wrote on twitter.

” Heard and immediate action taken, thanks to @narendramodi ji. For movie tickets priced below Rs. 100 the tax has been reduced from 18% to 12% now and for tickets priced above Rs. 100 the tax has been reduced from 28% to 18% now,” Ajay Devgan wrote on twitter.

Superstar Amir Khan also echoed the same sentiments as the other two, saying that if Indian cinema is to compete on world market then support from government and administration is needed.

Producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Karan Johar, Rakesh Roshan, Ronnie Screwwala, Prasoon Joshi, the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Sidharth Roy Kapoor, the president of the Film Producers Guild were part of the exclusive meeting with PM. Actors and producers Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar made their presence as well.
