Harvard University has ambitious plans to house a department dedicated to Tamil, thanks to the collective efforts by two Indian-born Doctors. Harvard has a 100 year old Sanskrit chair and is now sparing all efforts to constitute a Sangam Tamil chair.
Harvard Tamil Chair is a Sham; akin to providing a ladder to a Burglar says Ayyadurai
However, Dr.Shiva Ayyadurai – a systems scientist, holding four degrees from MIT has alleged that this fundraising effort in the name of setting up a Tamil Chair is a ruse that exemplifies Harvard’s habitual exploitation of indigenous people.”
Calling this fraudulent, Dr. Ayyaudurai, an entrepreneur running for U.S. Senate in 2018 said that this is an egregious example akin to a burglar asking you to pay money to buy a rickety ladder to rob your own home.
According to Dr.Ayyadurai, this act of constituting a Tamil chair and asking Tamilians to pay $ 6 million for a professorship will rob the rich artifacts worth trillions of dollars representing the ‘Holy Grail’ of the world’s most highly-prized indigenous knowledge; will enable Harvard to rewrite and hegemononize Tamil history, a plan Harvard has successfully executed to many indigenous cultures in the past.
Dr.Ayyadurai, went on to the extent of slamming Harvard as a “tax-exempt Wall Street hedge fund”. He alleged that there is evidence that “Hebrews in academia” were hand-in-glove in an effort to “reduce Tamil to a ‘goo goo ga ga’ language.
PLANS TO BUILD TAMIL UNIVERSITY
Dr.Ayyadurai has his own solution to this issue, he has ambitious plans to “galvanize” the Tamil diaspora and donate TamilNadu.com, which he owns and plans to build the first online Tamil University. To ensure his dreams come true Tamil techies are working hard to build a digital platform that will enable the end user to Master Tamil language, across various skill sets. This uniform, systematic, methodical approach is far better than the rudimentary approach of Harvard.
TAMIL NADU GOVERNMENT SANCTIONS 10 CRORES FOR HARVARD TAMIL CHAIR
Earlier in October 2017, the Tamil Nadu Government had sanctioned 10 crores towards setting up a Tamil Chair at Harvard University. Late Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha had included this in the list of promises as part of AIADMK’s election manifesto.
GETS SUPPORT FROM DR.JANAKIRAMAN
Dr.Janakiraman and Dr.Thirugnanasambandam, physicians settled in the U.S. had collectively decided to pitch 1 million towards the $ 6 million demand made by Harvard to form the chair.
Dr.Janakiraman is now reconsidering the proposal to fund the chair after Dr.Ayyadurai disclosed the sham of Harvard’s motive of constituting the chair. However, no decision is made by the physicians on the withdrawal of funding to the Chair.
HARVARD THREATENS LEGAL ACTION
Meanwhile, Harvard has upped the ante against Dr.Ayyadurai by threatening to take legal action on his blog post on January 8th which claimed that ‘Harvard was exploiting Tamilians by making them pay for their own historic artifacts’
