Have the ceasefire violations increased after Surgical Strike?

India had carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control on the intervening night of September 28th and 29th 2016, inflicting heavy casualties on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from terror launch pads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were launched days after terrorists attacked an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri, killing 19 jawans.

PM Narendra Modi has asserted that he won’t tolerate those who run an industry of exporting terror and kill innocent Indians. He has claimed that the surgical strikes conducted across the LoC proves that India can defend itself when needed.

The Prime Minister has even used this Surgical Strike conducted by Indian Army as a achievement by his government, which the Congress Party could not achieve. On several occasions, he claimed that he has given free hand to army.

Just few months back during Karnataka Assembly Elections, seeking to appeal to patriotic sentiments of the voters, PM Modi raked up the issue of cross-LoC surgical strikes. But are the claims made by PM Modi really true? Has the Modi Government really given a free hand to the Indian Army to retaliate in LoC?

According to a RTI query filed by Prafful Sarda, the numbers of ceasefire violations across LoC seems to have increased after 2016.

In the year 2016, there were 228 ceasefire violation by Pakistan, it is to be noted that the Surgical Strike was conducted in September 2016. In the year 2017, the number has increased by more than three folds, resulting in 860 ceasefire violations.

As of April 5th 2018, there have been nearly 666 ceasefire violation by Pakistan and the number of ceasefire violations has crossed the 1000 mark.

“In 2018 alone, there have been more than 1,000 cases of ceasefire violation by Pakistan. We have maintained that the ceasefire violation by Pakistan is used as a cover to infiltrate terrorists into our territory and we have seen the results of such infiltrations in the past. We hope that Pakistan will realise what it is doing and adherers to the 2003 ceasefire agreement between the two countries in this matter,” said External Minister spokesperson (MEA) Raveesh Kumar in response to a question.

RTI response clearly shows that no ceasefire violation has taken place at Northern borders, but despite of MEA efforts Pakistan has violated borders ceasefire 2582 times.

Even after surgical strike cease fire violation have increased in huge proportion, due to which many of our brave soilders and civilians have lost their lives.

Hope Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gives Indian army a free hand to tackle with Pakistan.
