On Tuesday, a three member team of the state-broadcaster Doordarshan came under naxalite attack at Dantewada of Chhattisgarh, while they were covering police operations in the surrounding areas. This attack claimed lives of video journalist Achuyatanand Sahoo and two other police personnel.
Now a heart-wrenching video of the attack has surfaced, which was shot by Doordarshan crew member Mormukut Sharma. As the Doordarshan team came under attack, Sharma believed that it could be his last day and so he picked out his phone to record a video message for his mother.
In the video, Sharma can be heard saying that he loves his mother and that despite being face to face with death, he isn’t scared of it.

Sharma begins the message by saying that an attack has happened. “I had come to Dantewada on election coverage,” Sharma says. “We were on a road… security personnel were with us… Suddenly Naxals surrounded us.”
“Mammi mein tumhe bahot pyaar karta hun… ho sakta hai mein iss hamle mein maara jau (Mom, I love you… I may die in this attack,” a decidedly calm Sharma is then heard saying.
Sharma then says that he is not scared. “Pata nai kyun maut ko saamne dekh dar nahi lag raha hai (I don’t know why but I do not feel scared even though I am facing death),” Sharma says.
“Bachna mushkil hai yaahan par… 6-7 jawaan hai saath mein… chaaron taraf se gher liye hai… abhi mein yeh hi kahunga (It doesn’t look like I will survive, a few jawans are with us but the Naxals have surrounded us from all sides… this is all I will say for now),” Sharma says, ending his message.
However due to his fortunes, Mormukut Sharma managed to survive the attack. Several other police officials who were providing security cover to the DD team, also sustained heavy injuries during the firing and were later admitted to Dantewada Hospital. As per the last reports received, they are in stable condition.
