I&B Ministry serves notice to 13 news channels including Kapil Sibal backed Tiranga TV for airing Pakistan Army press conference

Ministry of Information and Brodcasting has served notice to 13 news channels including senior Congress leader, Kapil Sibal backed Tiranga TV for airing the press briefing by Pakistan Army spokesperson after the Pulwama attacks.

After the attacks at Pulwama, I&B Ministry had issued an advisory asking channels to be cautious of airing content that is “likely to encourage or incite violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national attitude”. The advisory also asked channels not broadcast content that contains “anything affecting the integrity of the nation”.

According to the Ministry, airing the press briefing of Pakistan Army defied its advisories. Apart from Tiranga TV, similar notices were sent to 12 other news channels – ABP News, Surya Samachar, News Nation, Zee Hindustan, TOTAL TV, ABP Majha, News18 Lokmat, Jai Maharashtra, News 18 Gujarati, News24, Sandesh News and News18 India.

The notice accused Tiranga TV of not intervening to verify the “correctness or otherwise of the claims” made in the press briefing to ensure the guidelines are not violated. The notice said the channel had aired the content for 20 minutes and 45 seconds.

Addressing a press conference, Pakistan Army spokesperson had said that India blamed Pakistan for the Pulwama attack “without due investigation” and New Delhi has not yet accepted the “reality of partition.” He further said: “Should you (India) initiate any reaction first, you would never be able to surprise us… we will surprise you.” He said that when it comes to India, “Pakistan has singleness of conception. We have will and determination.”
