India and Russia will sign a deal during the India-Russia summit in Goa. Russia will deliver five S-400 missiles to India for one billion dollars each.
Putin recently had said India is Russia’s especially privileged strategic partner and cooperation between the two countries is making good progress in all areas.
The Defence Ministry had cleared the purchase of S-400 anti-aircraft missiles in December.
S400 is the most advanced surface-to-air missile system in the world. It can intercept incoming aircraft and missiles at a range of 400 kilometers. The radar’s in S400 has the ability to detect stealth aircrafts which go undetected in most of the other systems.
The government wants to install these around high-value installations including nuclear power plants and key government centers. They also provide us with a missile shield for protection against Pak and Chinese nuclear ballistic missiles.
