Everyone’s favorite superhero, Shaktimaan is all set to return back into their lives, this time in a far larger scale. The superhero series which broke all records during its initial run on state broadcaster Doordarshan in late 90’s/early 2000s, is all set to hit the silver-screen, in a scale on par with international franchises.
Mukesh Khanna, the maker and the iconic portrayer of the suporhero, on Friday announced the project of a full fledged movie trilogy, based on Shaktimaan. The trilogy is expected to take the story of Shaktimaan forward from where it was left after the end of TV series.
“It’s time to let the world know that Shaktimaan is being reincarnated. Yes, all those friends of Shaktimaan, I am now officially announcing that I am bringing Shaktimaan 2 soon. That too not on TV channel or OTT but as a trilogy, in the form of three films on the big screen,” said Khanna while announcing the news on Instagram.
Mukesh Khanna further promised that the three Shaktimaan films will be more exciting than Hrithik Roshan’s popular superhero franchise ‘Krrish’, and also Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Ra.One’.
The first film in the trilogy is expected to go on the floors in the latter half of 2021. Khanna added that as an entertainer, he feels responsible for the kind of content put out under the Shaktimaan banner, especially for the people who grew up with the series.
Shaktimaan premiered on 13 September 1997 as a TV series on Doordarshan and subsequently ran for over 8 years with around 450 episodes. Each episode featured the adventures of superhero Shaktimaan, who is a mystical warrior with yogic powers from Himalayas, living in Mumbai under guise of a newspaper reporter. Shaktimaan’s arch nemesis is Tamraj Kilvish, a person who was once a part of the same spiritual lineage as Shaktimaan but later turned evil and is now bent upon taking over the world and turning it into his world of darkness.
