According to reports, militants came and left in a Santro car. The incident comes less than a month after Army jawan Aurangzeb was abducted and later killed by terrorists in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Aurangzeb’s bullet-ridden body was recovered from Gussu village in Pulwama district hours after he was abducted by terrorists on his way home for Eid celebrations. He was shot in his head and neck, police had said.
Aurangzeb, a resident of Poonch, belonged to 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry and was posted at the 44 Rashtriya Rifles camp at Shadimarg in Shopian. On June 14, Aurangzeb was abducted at Kalampora in Pulwama when he was on his way home in Rajouri district. The incident happened during the Ramzan ceasefire in the state, as part of which the security forces were not initiating any anti-terrorist operations.
The slain rifleman was laid to rest with full state honours on Friday. A large number of locals, who attended his funeral, were seen raising slogans of ‘Shaheed Aurangzeb amar rahe’, outside his house in Poonch’s Mendhar,
The 44 RR has been instrumental in the recent crackdown against terrorists in the valley prior to the Ramzan ceasefire. The news of Aurangzeb’s killing came on the same day veteran Kashmiri journalist Shujaat Bukhari was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Valley.
Last month, a police constable was killed following a terrorist attack on a police party in Pulwama district. Constable Tanveer Ahmad succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
