Kamal Haasan fueling separatism by registering party members with state nationalities

There was an allegation on the membership drive of actor turned politician Kamal Haasan’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam that the entire membership drive is fake. This allegation was done by Tamilnadu Bharathiya Janata Party president, Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan and H.Raja. This incident was discussed in our previous piece and it can be read here,  https://satyavijayi.com/kamal-hassans-party-membership-drive-fake/ .

Something important went unnoticed amidst these problems. In the tweet shared by Makkal Needhi Maiam’s twitter handle, it is seen that the nationality of the registered person is recorded state wise. The registered person is given state nationality, which is unconstitutional. The image can be seen below, where the nationality of registered person is given as Tamilnadu:

Let’s see what the constitution says about citizenship/nationality. The article 5 of Indian constitutuin states that:

At the commencement of this Constitution, every person who has his domicile in the territory of India and—

(a) who was born in the territory of India; or

(b) either of whose parents was born in the territory of India; or

(c) who has been ordinarily resident in the territory of India for not less than five years immediately preceding such commencement,

shall be a citizen of India.”

There is no mention of state nationality in the constitution and it’s also not found in the 1955 citizenship act passed by government of India in parliament. When there is no room for state nationality in our constitution, it’s shocking to see KamalHaasan’s party enrolling its members by creating a state nationality. As this goes against our constitution, it can be even considered as a criminal offence.

This creates more doubt behind the agenda of Kamal Haasan in politics that he will voice for separatism in future. He is known for his pro-dravidian statements and thus it implies that he endorses the racial divisive Dravidian politics and even his party symbol represents the united southern states, which is against the idea of united India. This is a very bad development in Tamil Nadu as it will counter the growth of nationalism in Tamil Nadu and also will fuel separatism.
