While Karnataka is already tensed over the celebration of Tipu Jayanti who is regarded as the murderer of Kannada and Kanndaigas, the state intelligence wing has alerted the government that there could be incidents of violence and law and order problems in various parts of the state.
Sources in the intelligence wing said that they have recommended several security measures to be taken this time. Many organizations in Karnataka has called for Karnataka bandh, the situation is already tensed in various parts of Karnataka and the intelligence team predict the situation would well go out of control at any point in time. Glorification of religious fanatic called Tippu is not going too well with large section of people of Karnataka. Organizations fighting against Tippu jayanthi in Kodagu has already called for Kodagu bandh which could be followed by Bandh declaration in various other parts of Karnataka by 9th November. Pro Hindu organization like VHP and Bajrang Dal has issued strict warning to government to not go ahead with the celebration of anti hindu personality
Last year two people were killed in Madikeri, this time intelligence officials don’t see any major law and order problem there. “As there are clear reports of what could happen there, all security arrangements have been made in the district to avert any untoward incident. Those who are taking part in the celebrations will have to get passes from the police to attend the event,” the official said. The district will be under the surveillance of more than 100 CCTV, and about 10 KSRP force will be deployed In Kodagu. The government is also planning to deploy para military force and seal the border of Kodagu with Kerala. No vehicles will be permitted to enter Kodagu from Kerala post 9th of November said the sources. Kodagu will be under the strict watch of the security forces as MHA itself is monitoring the activities in the district.
However, it is said that places like Srirangapatna, Kalaburagi, Chitradurga, Chintamani, Shivamogga and Dakshina Kannada could face law and order problems. Also, the intelligence wing has raised concerns that anti-social elements could try to disturb peace a day or two before the Tipu Jayanti on Thursday.
“It is learnt that some elements have planned to create law and order problem a day before Tipu Jayanti, as the security will be tight across the state on that day. We have recommended prohibitory orders at some places and the orders will be issued on Monday or Tuesday. Also, several people will be picked up as a precautionary measure,” the official said.
