In an alleged case of ‘Love Jihad’ a Hindu girl from Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh, has accused her Muslim husband Sarfaraz Hussain and his family of trying to forcefully convert her into Islam. The girl alleged that relatives of her husband raped and tortured her when she refused to convert.
A case has been registered against seven persons including Safraj Hussain, his father Izhar Hussain, mother Shakeela, brother Zafar Hussain and three others in connection with forcible conversion.
The accused used to work at a company just opposite to the college. When he couldn’t make any contacts with her despite few attempts he joined an institution where the girl was doing a spoken English course. Sarfaraz Hussain befriended her by faking his identity as Raj Bishnoi.
To make her believe of him being a Hindu, Sarfaraz even used to visit temples and offer puja. In 2015 the girl got pregnant and started pressing the boy for marriage. In lack of any other option the accused took the girl to Haridwar temple and married her as per Hindu religious laws.
After marriage the girl started living with Sarfaraz at a rented house. She was unaware of her husband’s actual religious identity until one day when his brother arrived to meet him when he was not home. Even after coming to know of his actual name and religion she decided accept and stay back with him.
However after some days Sarfaraz took her to his parental house, where he arranged nikah (Islamic marriage) with her. After this the boy and his family started putting pressure on the girl to get converted into Islam. When she rejected to do so, they allegedly raped and tortured her.
“When I refused to change my religion, his family member used to torture me and refused to accept me as their daughter-in-law. One day they called a maulvi and forcibly changed my religion. When I objected I was beaten raped by his brother and others,” she told the police.
One day she managed to run away from the clutches of her in-laws and reach at her house at Rampur. Her parents then lodged an FIR. The boy and his family members have locked the house and absconding since case was lodged against them.
“We have recorded the statement of the girl and sent her for medical examination. Investigations are underway and the accused will be brought to books soon,” said the SHO.
