India on Tuesday slammed Pakistan’s attempts of holding a elections in illegal occupied territories of Gilgit-Baltistan. The Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement termed the “excersise” as a cosmetic move intended to camouflage the Islamic Republic’s illegal occupation of region which rightfully belongs to India.
“These are cosmetic exercises intended to camouflage its illegal occupation,” the MEA said.
The ministry further said that such actions, can neither hide the illegal occupation of parts of Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh by Pakistan nor the grave human rights violations.”
In unequivocally terms, the Ministry called upon Pakistan immediately vacate all the illegal territories under its forced occupation. “We call upon Pakistan to immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation.”
The Indian statement comes after Pakistan announced that elections for the legislative assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan will be held on 15 November. In a ruling earlier this year, the Pakistan Supreme Court had allowed Islamabad to amend a 2018 administrative order to conduct polls in the region.
