Mumbai: Massive Fire at Beau Monde Tower, under control

A fire broke out today at a high-rise building located on Appasaheb Marathe Marg in Mumbai’s Worli where actress Deepika Padukone, owns a sprawling apartment.

Ms Padukone, who has her residence in one floor of the 34-storey Beaumonde Towers, and her office in another, was not in when the fire started, reported news agency Press Trust of India quoting sources. Her home and office both are safe.When the fire broke out, Deepika was shooting for a brand.

The ward chairman of the area, Shiv Sena’s Kishori Pednekar has reached the spot. She met the local authorities and took updates on the situation.

A resident of the building has said that Tower B, where the fire is raging, has been evacuated. The other two towers are still being cleared out.

News agency ANI reported that more than 90 people have been rescued. The blaze has been graded Level 3 by the fire department. Ten fire engines, two quick response vehicles, five jumbo tankers and an ambulance at the spot. Firefighting operations are underway.

Police officials present at the venue said that a investigation will be launched in the cause of fire that engulfed the top floor of the Beaumonde towers in Prabhadevi area. Future course of action will be decided after further investigation.

B-wing residents of Beaumonde did not realise that there was a fire Residents in the C-wing started screaming when the fire broke out, which is how the residents in the B-wing found out about the incident.

No one was injured so far in the blaze which was reported at 2.08 pm from the 33rd floor, fire brigade sources told PTI.
