Himanshu Roy, Maharashtra cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, allegedly committed suicide in his south Mumbai residence on Friday afternoon.
A former chief of the Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra, Himanshu Roy was an Additional Director General of Police.

The 54-year-old was believed to be battling cancer and had gone on long leave on medical grounds.
A 1988 batch IPS officer, Roy was instrumental in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing investigation. He was also a former Mumabi ATS chief and has held key portfolios.

Himanshu Roy led investigations into several big cases including the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing, the murder of Pallavi Purkayastha and the J Dey murder. While he was heading the anti-terror squad, he arrested software engineer Anees Ansari for allegedly planning to blow up the American School.
