India is one of the very few countries in the world where a Muslim man can divorce his wife in a matter of minutes by just uttering the word talaq (divorce) three times. But now because of PM Narendra Modi, this controversial practice of “triple talaq” is facing a stiff challenge – the Supreme Court is considering to declare it unconstitutional!
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) had told the Supreme Court that pleas challenging the practices of triple talaq, ‘nikah halala’ and polygamy among Muslims were not maintainable as the issues fell outside the realm of judiciary. On many instances they have tried to tell the entire world that they will not let anybody intervene in their law and that there is nothing wrong with it.
But it seems like the Muslim women do not feel that way at all. They are fed up with practices like ‘halala’, ‘teen talaaq’ in the Muslim law as they feel these practices are injustice to Muslim women. With a great unbeatable force, she exposed the Muslim Board’s biased decisions and also Muslim men who leave their wives after ‘teen talaaq’. Hear her out and she will leave you stunned! This move by Modi government has planted confidence in Muslim women towards trusting the government which thinks of their good and indeed wishes to help them. Now Muslim women, seeing that they are not alone, have started taking a stand too!
An example of this was witnessed during one of the debates on ‘Aaj Tak’ where a Muslim lady vented out her frustration at the existing practices in Muslim religion and also about the ordeals Muslim women have to face because of these unjust laws…
