National Commission for Women takes cognizance of Barkha Dutt’s allegations against Tiranga TV promoter Kapil Sibal and his wife

National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of allegations against Tiranga TV promoter Kapil Sibal and his wife of abusing female staffer. On Monday, in a series of tweets, senior journalist Barkha Dutt made several allegations against Sibal. She accused the senior Congress and his wife of abusing female staffer at Tiranga TV, using words such as ‘Kutiya’ and ‘Bitch’.

Barkha had mentioned in her tweets that the abuse meted out by Promila Sibal to the female employees is a fit case for NCW’s intervention. She affirmed that she will place signed affidavits to prove her case.

Following the tweets of Barkha Dutt, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma had replied to her, asking her to send the details of the incident to her official email address.

Barkha Dutt accused Kapil Sibal’s wife of being insensitive to the plight of employees. According to the former NDTV editor, Promita Sibal who runs a meat factory said, “I shut down factory without giving a paisa to labour, who are these journalists to ask for 6 months salary.” Kapil Sibal earns crores every day but he won’t pay 200 employees industry norm of 6 months or at least 3 months payout, ruining the lives of 200 plus people, she tweeted.

Tiranga TV was launched by Congress leader Kapil Sibal along with fellow party leaders, P Chidambaram and DK Shivakumar, prior to the Lok Sabha elections. However now they are reportedly planning cease operations of the news channel which had managed to pull in well known names of the industry, such as Barkha Dutt and Karan Thapar.
