National hero Abhinandan Varthaman’s parents given standing ovation by co-passengers on flight

The parents of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman were given a standing ovation by other co-passengers when they were traveling on flight from Chennai to National capital new Delhi. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman has emerged as an overnight national hero after he shot down a Pakistani F16 fighter jet using a Mig 21 jet, which is far inferior technology wise.

However after successfully shooting down the Pakistani fighter jet, Abhinandan’s plane crashed on Pakistani side of the border and he was taken into custody. He is expected to be released by Pakistan later today.

When the passengers of the flight realised that they were traveling with the parents of their latest war hero, the people just couldn’t resist themselves from standing up and clap for them. Abhinandan Varthaman’s father is himself an Airforce veteran, who had served in the position of Air Marshall.

On Thursday, in face of massive international pressure, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that Abhinandan would be released. Khan reiterated his country doesn’t want to escalate tensions with India. The big announcement sent a wave of happiness across the nation. Abhinandan will enter his country via the Wagah border, where the mood is already celebratory. His parents left for Amritsar soon after reaching Delhi.

On Thursday, IAF’s Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor in a press conference said the forces were glad Abhinandan was returning home. “We see it as a gesture in consonance with the Geneva Convention,” Kapoor said. A delegation of IAF will receive Abhinandan at the border.
Notably, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh also sought permission from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to receive the IAF pilot.
