Several FIRs have been filed against one Odisha based lawyer named Mehendi Reza, for giving rape threat to actress Kangana Ranaut over social media.
On Saturday, 17th of October, Ranaut took to Facebook to share Navratri greetings with her followers. While, most reciprocated for the greetings, Reza made a crude comment, implying that the actress’ modesty should be violated in “mid town.”
However, when confronted by other users on the social network site, Reza quickly sought to disown the comment by claiming that his Facebook account was hacked.
“Today my Facebook ID got hacked at evening and some derogatory comments get posted. This is my not views regarding any women or any community. I am also very shocked and apologise for it. I request to all the people of kindly accept my apology and forgive me whose sentiments got hurt. I am really sorry for it,” he wrote on twitter.
Reza is a practicing lawyer in the Court of District & Sessions, Jharsuguda, Odisha.
Meanwhile, several individual and groups have come forward to file FIRs against the lawyer, including Rajput rights group Karni Sena, as Ranaut belongs to the community. Though, Odisha police is yet to take any actions against the culprit.
Hitting out at Odisha police for delay in action, senior journalist and researcher Saswat Panigrahi has demanded the government of Odisha to ensure that law takes its own course.
Hindu girl @KanganaTeam has been threatened of "rape in mid-town" by one Mehendi Reza for her Navratri post. After 4 days, 4 FIRs that man is still at large. Instead of running after @PandaJay for his Pak analogy, Odisha govt must ensure that law takes its own course unlike Pak.
