After a significant performance in Seemanchal region of Bihar, the prospects of Asaduddin Owaisi led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) contesting in West Bengal polls has Mamata Banerjee led TMC worried.
With BJP pushing for Hindu voters, TMC is putting a lot of its hopes on the strong Muslim voter base in the state, which might get divided if AIMIM enters the fray. But now, in a latest twist, Asaduddin Owaisi led party has offered a pre poll alliance to TMC.
In a statement on Thursday, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM supremo, Owaisi offered a pre poll alliance to Mamata Banerjee led TMC. However, TMC doesn’t appear to be too keen on making any compromise with a new force in the state, just yet.
AIMIM is eyeing minority-dominated districts of Malda, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur for the 2021 state elections.
Meanwhile, alarmed by the entry of AIMIM in Bengal, the CPI(M) and the Congress, which has decided to fight the next Assembly polls as alliance partners, held a two-hour-long meeting on Tuesday night to determine their poll strategy.
