On October 9th 2017, Supreme Court bench banned the sale of crackers in Delhi NCR. Bursting of firecrackers during Diwali in 2017 had resulted in particulate matter (PM) levels shooting up by three times, making Delhi the worst city in the world, the bench remarked. Direct and immediate cause thereof was burning of crackers during Diwali, it observed.
The Supreme Court had also suspended the sale of firecrackers in Delhi and NCR in November, 2017 in a bid to test whether a Deepavali without firecrackers this year will have a “positive effect” on the health of citizens and a steadily deteriorating air quality.
But Supreme Court has directed that no such ban will be there on New Year Eve, as the Crackers during New Year turn Eco-Friendly and do not cause harm to environment. Indeed, the Crackers help us by producing more oxygen.
Supreme Court also mentioned that New Year is a Secular festival, which all celebrate irrespective of their caste and religion, and hence there should not be any barrier to celebrate it. Barrier would cause problems in our “Ganga Jamna Tehzeeb”.
Also, Loudspeakers used during New Year do not cause any problems as no one has any concerns over it. All are awake on New Year night and all enjoy the music played on the Loudspeakers and so speakers become a way of uniting every one.
Finally, Supreme Court has wished each and every one a Very Happy & Secular New Year !!!
