In a big blow to the Samajwadi Party (SP), Naresh Agarwal, a confidante of the Yadavs, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. He was welcomed by Union Minister Piyush Goyal as he joined BJP at party headquarters in New Delhi.
Naresh Agarwal, who was once vocal critic of the Modi Government and BJP in the Rajya Sabha (RS), lauded PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah. He said BJP’s growing popularity prompted him to join the party. He was earlier with the Akhil Bharatiya Loktantrik Congress with Jagdambika Pal, Rajeev Shukla and Shyam Sunder Sharma that allied with the BJP Government headed by Kalyan Singh in UP in 1997.
Naresh Agrawal is not new to controversy. In July 2017, while speaking in the RS, he likened Hindu Gods and Goddesses to alcohol, triggering an uproar.
Despite having been in Congress, SP and BSP at various times, Agarwal said joining BJP was a “Ghar Wapsi” (homecoming) and that he would do whatever the party assigned. “I have not joined BJP for any Rajya Sabha ticket, nor have I set any condition,” he said.
Further he stated that he has given Agni Pariksha before he joined BJP to prove himself to be pure. Agni pariksha, a trial by fire where he walked on fire which made his all sins wash away. A Yagya (यज्ञ) was done which made Naresh Agarwal perfect to join BJP.
Sambit Patra personally reached residence of Naresh Agarwal, asked him to shout out loud the below slogans thrice, before he could actually join BJP:
- Bharat Mata Ki Jai
- Vande Mataram
- Jai Shree Ram
- Mandir Wahi Baneye
In future, it is expected that BJP might welcome Mamta Banarjee, Akarbuddin Owaisi, Rahul Gandhi and many more into BJP.
Inspired by the reasons given by BJP supporters aka Akhand Bakths for Naresh Agrawal’s ghar-wapsi to BJP, Anand Iyer, a political enthusiast has given very valid reasons which BJP supporters will use in future to defend Asaduddin Owaisi, Sitaram Yechuri, Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal ghar-wapsi to BJP.
