People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an American animal rights organization based in Norfolk, Virginia, and led by Ingrid Newkirk, its international president. A non-profit corporation with nearly 400 employees, it claims that it has 6.5 million members and supporters, in addition to claiming that it is the largest animal rights group in the world. Its slogan is “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.”
PETA has played an active role in banning Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu. As per PETA, Jallikattu is crueality on Animals and Animals are harmed during the festival. Similar to this PETA had taken initiative to successfully banned Bullock Cart Race. After the Maharashtra government passed a legislation lifting the ban on bullock cart races in the state, stating the amended act will ensure participating animals are not harmed and violators would be penalized.
Animal rights organisation PETA, which has alleged that bulls are treated cruelly during the races, said it will challenge the Bill. Farmers, who have practiced bullock cart racing as a part of their tradition and culture, had been protesting against the ban since it was enforced in the state in 2014 following the Supreme Court order.
PETA has also played important to role to get the Deadly Manja banned which is used during the Makarsankranti (sharp kite strings) to fly kites. So in total PETA was able to see trouble and Harm for Animals in:
- Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu
- Bullock Cart Race in Maharashtra
- Kambala in Karnataka
- Deadly Manja for kites in Makarsankranti
- Diwali beacuse of Crackers
And the list continues…
But as per PETA during Bakrid Eid the animals are not harmed and there is cruelty. The knife used are not deadly like Deadly Manja, nor it causes loud noise like Crackers in Diwali. Hence animals are not harmed in any way. Also animals are cut using the method called “Halal” which is peaceful and does not causes any pain. So, there should not be problems on Bakrid Eid, moreover there will be below advantages:
1. Peaceful method to cut Animals “Halal”:
2. Saves goats from sexual assaults:
3. Cleans roads and also gives them a colour:
Seeking to all these factors PETA has declared Bakrid Eid as a Peaceful Festival as it does not harm animals in any ways. Enjoy Guys !!
