Photo journalists trashed by Congress workers in Tamil Nadu for filming empty chairs at their event

Photo journalists were attacked by Congress workers in Tamil Nadu for filming footage of empty chairs at a public meeting called by the state Congress to explain the party manifesto.

In the video which is going viral on social media, party workers can be seen brutally trashing journalists and snatching their cameras away. When other media personnel tried to intervene they were also manhandled. Later, the police had to intervene.

Tamil Nadu Congress president and party candidate for Virudhunagar Lok Sabha constituency KS Alagiri was also present at the meeting. Apart from him, B Manickam Tagore and DMK MLA Thangam Thennarasu were also present but no one from the party came forward to stop the workers from attacking the journalists.

The injured were rushed to a private hospital.
Condemning the incident, Chennai press club urged the cops to take action against the attackers.

Earlier, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka had earned praises from the people for helping journalists who had fainted in a mishap during Congress party’s roadshow in Kerala’s Wayanad. But this incident seems to have tarnished the media friendly image of the Congress that the Gandhis were trying showcase.

Rahul had helped 5-6 journalists who were injured during his roadshow. While filing his nomination papers in Wayanad, Rahul and Priyanka helped three journalists who had fainted in the heat. In the pictures that went viral on social media, Priyanka was seen holding shoes of one of the journalist while Rahul was seen helping people carrying the injured on a stretcher to an ambulance.
