PM Modi visits Vajpayee in AIIMS

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was admitted to Delhi’s AIIMS hospital today “for a routine check-up and investigations,” his party BJP said today. He will spend the night in hospital.

Prior to Modi, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and BJP chief Amit Shah paid a visit to the former PM. Veteran BJP leaders LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi have also arrived at AIIMS to visit Vajpayee.

Union health minister JP Nadda said at a press conference that the former prime minister was at AIIMS for a regular examination.

The 93-year-old leader has been admitted on doctors’ advice and will be under the supervision of AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, the BJP said in a statement. The BJP stalwart, who served as PM between 1998-2004, slowly withdrew from public life as his health deteriorated and has been confined to his residence for many years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday evening visited Vajpayee at hospital, news agency PTI said. Modi enquired about the well being of Vajpayee and met his family members, official sources said.

He is currently stable and is under the care of a team of doctors headed by AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria, who is a pulmonologist (chest specialist). Apart from him, the team of doctors also includes nephrologist Dr Soumita Bagchi and gastroenterologist Dr Pramod Garg. He is likely to remain in the hospital for the night as tests are going on.
